MARVEL: BABY MACIE HOPE BORN TWICE
When
Chad and Keri McCartney say their infant daughter, Macie
Hope, is born again, they aren’t referring to religion — the month-old
miracle baby really was born twice.
The first “birth” was about six months into Keri McCartney’s pregnancy,
when surgeons at Texas Children’s Hospital took the tiny fetus from
Keri’s womb to remove a tumor that would have killed Macie before she
was born.
The second time was on May 3, when the McCartneys welcomed their
surgically repaired — and perfectly healthy — baby girl into the world.

UNBORN BABY UNDERGOES SUCCESSFUL SURGERY AT 22 WEEKS
GESTATION
MELBOURNE, AU, - In what may be a
medical first, doctors at Monash Medical Centre in Melbourne
Australia successfully conducted surgery on an unborn child
at a mere 22 weeks gestation, reports Australia's The Age.
Typically doctors will wait until at least 28 weeks
gestation before conducting such 'in utero' surgery, said a
representative from Monash according to AFP, due to the high
risks involved both to the child and mother.
When
Australians Kylie and Terry Bowlen were told, eighteen weeks
into Kylie's pregnancy, that their baby girl suffered from a
relatively rare condition known as Amniotic Band Syndrome
(ABS), they did not know what to do.
"I was just thinking, 'What have I
done to deserve this? Have I done anything wrong?'" Kylie
told The Age.
Amniotic Band Syndrome occurs when
amniotic bands wrap around the unborn child, constricting
blood flow to various parts of the child's body. In the case
of the Bowlen's baby girl, Leah, the bands had wrapped
around her legs. If the ABS had been left untreated, it
could have led to her having her legs amputated after birth,
or even to her death.

BRAZILIAN ANENCEPHALIC BABY SHATTERS PRO-ABORTION MYTHS
Morro Agudo, Brazil -- In
announcing that the Brazilian Supreme Court may soon rule on
whether to permit abortions for anencephalic babies -
infants born without a complete brain - Folha de Sao Paulo
columnist Josias de Souza claimed that such children
normally die within days of birth.
But
tell that to Cacilda Galante Ferreira, whose daughter
Marcela was born with anencephaly a year and a half ago in
Morro Agudo, Sao Paulo State, Brazil. The baby is very much
alive, quite healthy, and responds to family members. "One
week I had to go out and I left Marcela sleeping with my
other daughter. When I returned she was agitated and
crying. I can't stay away from her for one minute," her
mother told the newspaper A Cidade in February. Although she
was born without most of her brain, Marcela Ferreira has
lived for a year and a half with little extraordinary care.
She receives oxygen supplementation and eats through a
feeding tube inserted through her nose, but otherwise lives
normally. She interacts with family members and shows signs
of consciousness. Her presence is a joy for all.
"My little dear, the little infant so
small and fragile, is today strong and very much loved by
everyone," her mother reportedly wrote in a diary entry.
"Little Marcela came into the world to touch our hearts and
to show us the true meaning of life."

BRITISH MUM OVERJOYED MIRACLE BABY SURVIVED ABORTION
London -- A
British baby has now become a cause célèbre
for his mother and pro-life advocates in the
United Kingdom for miraculously defying twin
death sentences from abortion and genetics.
Finley Crampton's birth has overwhelmed his
mother, Jodie Percival, who is happy that in
the end her baby beat the enormous odds
against him to be born a healthy boy.
Percival, 25, had decided to abort baby
Finley at 8 weeks, because she carries a
gene which triggers multicystic dysplastic
kidney (MCDK) - a condition where cysts grow
on the kidneys of an unborn baby. The
condition is fatal when it affects both
kidneys; however patients who have MCDK in
one kidney can live normal lives, provided
the other is healthy. Percival's first
child, Thane, had died from MCDK just 20
minutes after birth, and her second son,
20-month old Lewis also suffers from the
disorder and now has one kidney. Percival
and her fiancé Billy Crampton, 35, had been
using the contraceptive pill to frustrate
pregnancy when they discovered Percival was
pregnant again. They opted to abort the
baby.

PRO-LIFE VOTERS MUST WORK
OVERTIME TO STOP PRO-ABORTION BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA
Washington, DC
--
A spokeswoman for a
leading pro-life group says pro-life advocates need to begin work today
to stop likely Democratic nominee Barack Obama. Karen Cross, the
political director for National Right to Life, says Obama would advocate
abortion at every turn if elected president. "Senator Barack Obama has a
strong position and voting record in favor of abortion on demand," Cross
told LifeNews.com. "He strongly supports the appointment of only U.S.
Supreme Court Justices who favor Roe v. Wade." That means Obama would
ensure legalized abortion throughout the entirety of pregnancy will
remain legal in the U.S. for another 35 years, Cross says. "If Senator
Barack Obama becomes president of the United States, hundreds of
thousands more unborn children will likely die each year," Cross warns.

ABORTION CENTER IN
ILLINOIS HIT WITH SECOND BOTCHED ABORTION LAWSUIT IN WEEKS
Granite City, IL -- The Hope Clinic for Women
located in the Illinois side of border of St. Louis, is the subject of
the second botched abortion lawsuit in six months. In this new case, a
young woman says the abortion center failed to do a complete abortion
and left part of her unborn child inside of her -- causing her
infertility. Antoinette Blanton, who is 20, filed a $50,000 against the
abortion center saying the failed March 2006 abortion caused her to be
sterile. According to the lawsuit, abortion practitioner Allen S.
Palmer, of Bridgeton, failed to remove the entire unborn child during
the abortion procedure. The Granite City Press newspaper indicates
attorney Christian Montroy of the Rex Carr Law Firm in East St. Louis
filed the suit for Blanton in Third Circuit Court and that the case has
been assigned to Circuit Judge Andy Matoesian. The paper indicates a
deposition was held May 16 but no other court dates for hearings have
been set. Local pro-life advocate Angela Michael told LifeNews.com she's
not surprised by the lawsuit because legalizing abortion didn't make the
abortion procedure any safer for women. "Back-alley abortions were
supposed to be a 'thing of the past,'" after abortion became legal and
multi-million dollar abortion centers like Hope were opened. "When are
the Illinois Board of Health and legislators going to wake up and public
outrage going to hold the butchers inside Hope abortion Clinic
accountable?" she asked.

KANSAS GRAND JURY NOT
GETTING ABORTION RECORDS DESPITE HIGH COURT RULING
Wichita,
KS -- A Kansas grand jury that is investigating late-term abortion
practitioner George Tiller has yet to receive any of the abortion
records it needs to determine whether he broke state abortion law.
That's despite a Kansas Supreme Court ruling from nearly one month ago
that the subpoenas it issued for the records should be honored. Fewer
than 20 abortion records have been turned over from Tiller's abortion
center to the independent attorney assisting the grand jury, according
to an AP report, even though the grand jury wants to look at as many as
2,000 from the past five years.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
DISASSOCIATES WITH PLANNED PARENTHOOD ABORTION CENTER
Sarasota,
FL --
After an avalanche
of phone calls and emails from pro-life advocates locally and across the
country, Habitat for Humanity in Sarasota, Florida has disassociated
itself with a proposed Planned Parenthood abortion center. The local
Habitat board voted Tuesday night to disengage from the project. Habitat
had come under fire from pro-life advocates for helping a Florida-based
Planned Parenthood overcome a hurdle to building a new abortion
business. Planned Parenthood has been looking to build a new abortion
facility in the Rosemary District north of downtown Sarasota, Florida.
However, according to local zoning rules, the abortion business can't
build the new center unless a multi-family housing unit is built on the
back of the lot. The zoning board turned down a five-year extension
since it is not a builder and couldn't find a buyer for the lot.

PRO-LIFE CATHOLIC GROUP
URGES QUESTIONING CANDIDATES ON REALITY OF ABORTION
Opinion
--
With the primaries
now behind us, the general election season is underway. As we have done
in the past, and as we do all year long, Priests for Life will again be
very vocal in the coming months about the responsibilities we all have
“to participate in building the culture of life” (US Bishops, Living the
Gospel of Life, n.34). The voters will hear from us, the candidates will
hear from us, and the message will be clear: “The direct and intentional
destruction of innocent human life from the moment of conception until
natural death is always wrong and is not just one issue among many. It
must always be opposed” (US Bishops, Forming Consciences for Faithful
Citizenship, n.28).
LifeNews.com Note: The following is a statement from Priests for Life, a
leading pro-life Catholic group that works to educate pro-life advocates
on issues like abortion. Led by Father Frank Pavone, Priests for Life
has been active in urging pro-life voters to make abortion their number
one priority.
LOUISIANA SENATE APPROVES
BAN ON TAXPAYER FUNDING OF HUMAN CLONING
Baton Rouge, LA -- The Louisiana Senate, on Tuesday, voted
unanimously to approve legislation that bans state taxpayer funding of
human cloning. The bill prohibits using any state funds on either
reproductive or research-based human cloning and the Senate vote follows
a 90-9 vote in the House in April. The Senate voted 35-0 for Rep.
Cameron Henry's legislation and now the House must sign off on minor
changes the Senate made to it. Once that happens, the measure will head
to pro-life Gov. Bobby Jindal, who has already indicated he will sign it
into law. Dr. W. "Al" Krotoski, the president of the pro-life coalition
group Hippocratic Resource, told LifeNews.com he's delighted by the
vote. "After four long years of battling pro-cloning forces to a draw in
the Louisiana legislature, we will now be protected from having our
taxes used to manufacture human life," he said.
